Greetings!  With inclement weather on the rain after an already rainy morning, we will cancel pickleball this afternoon.  Early next week, we will be announcing the start of our next Pickleball season so stay tuned!

On Thursday, July 13 we will have our final pickleball session of this season and will introduce a tournament to determine a season 1 champion.  We will also have a professional photographer on-hand to take some photos of everyone.  Please wear your pickleball shirts if you have them (or at least bring them for a couple photos :) )

We have been monitoring the Air Quality Index and have decided to cancel tonight's game. Due to the cancellation, we are bumping the end date by a week to ensure everyone has a chance to play in the eight-week season, whether you are in the league or open play.

Pick Up Your Pickle T-Shirt Tonight!

Our pickleball league t-shirts are in and anyone who has paid for the full league registration has one with your (figurative) name on it! Make sure you check with Commissioner Willy and get your t-shirt. We'd like to do a big group photo with everyone in their t-shirts tonight as well, so please join us if you can!

Thank you to everyone who has come out and enjoyed some Pickleball with us so far. We've had a ton of fun playing and teaching everyone the ropes and overall, we have a lot of players in the same skill territory. To make things more fun and a little more structured, we will be introducing the following match play format going forward.

Match Play Format

Every week, our players will be broken up into teams to play 3 official matches. From 7-7:30 will be warm up and practice play, and the first official match will be at 7:30pm. We will play Best of 1 format with Rally Scoring and the scores from the official match will be recorded. If your game finishes early, the teams can break up and swap around and continue playing scrimmage matches until the next match at 8:00pm. The final official match will start at 8:30. This will ensure all participants get plenty of match time, but we are keeping track of scores on a consistent basis.

Skill Matching Begins Tonight

Based on our two weeks of play, we have a pretty good sense for where people are on the skill ladder. So tonight, you will be placed on a team designed to create an even and fun matchup. If you're a stronger player, you may have a more novice partner - for example. This won't always be the case, as we do want players to mix and match plenty. However, each matchup we make will be done with an eye on balance. If there is interest in singles matches, we will set those up two for interested players.

T-Shirts In Next Week

Next week, you will be able to pick up your pickleball t-shirts for the league. If you want to upgrade to a league fee to receive your t-shirt, please make sure you do so before Saturday of this week.

Tonight is the night where we begin our Pickleball Ladder League and we're excited to see everyone.  Now if you're sitting there thinking.... "but I signed up for Saturday?" then we have a special treat for you.

Your League Covers Both Thurs AND Sat Play!

Double the pickleball - same price! If you signed up for Saturday, you are welcome to join us on Thursdays as well. If you signed up for Thursdays? Hey, see you Saturdays too. Enjoy as much pickleball as you can handle!  Open play remains $10 per week as does your initial training session so if you have friends who are curious - please invite them along!

So how does the league work?

After our first week of evaluations, we see most players are very similar in terms of their skill and experience - aka we're all novices. Which will make for great competitive play and great opportunities to improve on the court. So we will deploy a Ladder Format for our play. The first three matches you play will be Mixed Doubles Placement Play with random partners. We will track individual scores and this will help us establish skill baselines for each player. Once your placement matches are completed, you will be placed on the ladder.

The basic concept is simple - wins move you up, losses move you down. If you're high on the ladder and you beat someone low on the ladder - you won't move much. But if you're low and you beat someone high? Big boost!

This format will allow us to keep skill groupings together and avoid matches that are too frequently setup with a skills mismatch, and will give all players comfortable play. Next week, we will debut the ladder system on the site so you can visually see your progress.

In the mean time? Come join us Thursday, Saturday, or both! Get in your placement matches and at the end of the season, we'll crown our first Pickle Pro Champion!  Interested in Singles?  Chat with Commissioner Willy and let him know - we'll introduce a Singles ladder as soon as enough players are comfortable playing that format!

League Format & Open Play

We welcome pickleballers of all skill levels to compete, and in order to encourage participation we have included Open Play as an option. For just $10 a week, anyone can come out and join the fun and learn pickleball through our series of training games and matches against other beginners. If you know some friends who were interested but not ready to commit yet, please invite them to try this option!

Benefits for League Players
For our league player who are ready to dive into the thrill of competition, we will be keeping score and tracking your progress over the next few weeks in a Ladder scoring format. We will have matches each week that will feature both pre-made teams and mixed teams, and your progress will be tracked both individually and with your chosen teammates. When the dust settles several weeks from now, our league players will all have brand new pickleball t-shirts and a crowned set of champions!

Don't Sweat it - This Week is Pre-season

Feeling nervous? Don't be! We always start all of our leagues with a welcome pre-season week where games are tracked but do not count towards the final standings. So come out this Thursday and Saturday and settle in to some games and meet your future teammates and opponents - no pressure.
