The teams have been drafted, the schedules are set, the coaches are pouring through their strategy...  That means there is only one thing left:  PLAY BALL.

Week 1 is Pre-Season

Tomorrow you will meet your teammates for the first time ever, and it's the first time many coaches and umpires are playing this format as well. To ease our way into the league, tomorrow's games will have umpires and keep score but these results will not count towards the regular season standings. So relax and come out ready to try some new things, knock off the rust, and ease your way into the game.

Rules are posted online for all coaches and players to review. For those of you experienced in other leagues, be aware that League Joe has a couple of unique safety rules. You can find a summary of the rules on the summary tab, and the full rules PDF on the Official Rulebook tab.

Merch / Gear / Jerseys

Now that teams have been selected, your jerseys are in production and will be shipped ASAP. With this being our first season, please allow us a little extra time to complete your order as we work through local logistics process. If you ordered extra items (shorts, shirts, jerseys, coolers, etc), those items are on the way and will be distributed at league night - likely Week 2.

The Bradenton Inaugurual Slowpitch season kicks off tonight at Joey D's Pizza, and we hope you can join to say hello to your future coaches and teammates. Here's what you need to know before you go:

• Coaches and players will start arriving around 6:00pm. Coaches will take some time to get situated and mingle, and draft will kick off sometime around 6:30/6:45
• Joey D's has arranged for us to have the patio so head there when you arrive
• Before you sit, check in with the coaches just to say hello and let them know you are in attendance. Don't be shy - just ask! They'll be the ones nervously staring at spreadsheets!
• Once the draft begins, the coaches will select players and announce them, and write them on the draft board
  NOTE ABOUT SKILL: The coaches have a strict salary cap to adhere to which forces them to balance between our upper and novice players. Some of the pros will drop into the late rounds, and some of our newbies could go in the first or second round. Do not sweat where you are drafted too much... it is all in good fun!
• At the conclusion of the draft, all results will be sent to LJ to process with results to be emailed sometime tomorrow

Who Will Get Drafted?

All players who completed their payment are eligible to be drafted. Tonight, the coaches will draft 8 out of 11 possible rounds of players, but some players will be held back for a final balancing process that is done by LJ HQ. Coaches will attempt to draft all players in attendance tonight so they can meet them, so if you're in attendance do be sure to check in!

And if you are not drafted tonight - this is not indicative of your skill level. Both good and novice players are left undrafted to allow us to ensure maximum parity. Don't worry, you'll have a team soon!

We have been looking for the perfect place to showcase our draft and what better place than a hot spot that serves pizza and beer?

Come join us tomorrow and see yourself get drafted LIVE at Joey D's Pizza in Bradenton! All of our coaches will be gathered together pouring through spreadsheets and salary caps, and call our players names one after the other until our teams are formed. This is your first chance to meet some of the other players in the league and your future coach!

If you didn't make it into this first season but are curious about how it works - come hang out and watch the fun! And if we get a drop or two, you might be able to sneak in....

Welp, Not the Start We Wanted...

Unfortunately, Mother Nature is 1-0 against us as we are forced to cancel tonight's open play due to unsafe field conditions. As it stands, our plan is to go ahead and start the league next week with week 1 being pre-season - so get ready to knock the rust off with your new team!

We are on cruise control and have officially added an extra field to raise our team limit to NINE for our inaugural season, and we're very close to hitting that goal. If you have not paid or made payment arrangements yet, this is your warning that we will sell out this week! We're Upgrading : T-Shirts -> Custom Jerseys

In our mini-seasons, we don't usually have time to do custom jerseys so we offer t-shirts instead. However, since we will be sold out in advance of the start of league, we're upgrading everyone to custom jerseys at no additional cost.

Jerseys will be ordered immediately after the draft concludes and should arrive by Week 2 (week 3 at the latest, if shipping snags). Please visit your League Joe merch settings page and add your custom name, number, and jersey size as soon as you can.

Draft Party To Be Announced Soon

We are currently planning the details around the draft party, which we will try to do live in a local watering hole. Attendance is NOT required to play in the league, but if you want to see how the draft works, this will be your chance! Stay tuned for an update.

Open Play is ON for Monday

For those of you new to the game - WELCOME. This Monday, you will have a chance to meet your fellow teammates, future coaches, and importantly knock off a little rust. We will meet up and warm up starting around 6:30, and take the fields for games by 7. Games will be simple scrimmages to give everyone reps so if you're an experienced player, be ready to help show the ropes to some of the newbies!

A Note on Bats & Culture

We have a heavy mix of brand new players and experienced players, and bats is a topic that has come up a lot in support chats. For this league, we are allowing USSSA certified 220s and 240s, and will have a bat tester available as needed.

For many of you, you probably don't know what that last sentence really means and that's ok! Come out ready to learn and you are welcome to borrow bats in the first couple weeks until you learn what kind you want to swing. We do not recommend you buy a bat before you learn from the experienced players, as there are bats at Wal-mart and Dicks that will not do you any favors!

For the experienced players: We all know about those BP bats that are busted up, semi-broken, and in some cases - modified. We know that bats can have a 220 stamp and fail compression numbers down in the 100s, and we all know what that means. This is not the league to bring out those bats. You will quickly see that players on both teams are going to need time to acclimate to the game, and shooting piss missiles at them with illegal sticks is not the way to welcome them to the game. We have a very strict policy and if we every discover any bats we deem to be dangerous on our fields, we reserve the right to remove the bats (and their owners) from the parks and from the league if we deem the infraction serious enough.

If you are new to the game and don't know what I'm talking about - don't sweat it! If you know exactly what I'm talking about, just leave those sticks in the trunk. You won't need them in this league for it to be fun and competitive!
